Treatment for a Positive Chlamydia Test
If you have received a positive chlamydia test result, it is important to arrange treatment promptly. Chlamydia is a common sexually transmitted infection (STI) and can usually be effectively treated with antibiotics. Our pharmacy service provides treatment following a confirmed positive result, together with confidential advice and support. Your pharmacist will discuss your treatment with you and provide guidance on taking your medication.
Protecting You and Your Partners
It is important that recent sexual partners are also informed and tested, as chlamydia can often cause no noticeable symptoms. Sexual health services can provide support with partner notification where needed. You should avoid sexual contact during treatment and follow the advice given by your healthcare professional about when it is safe to resume sexual activity.
After Treatment
A repeat test around 3 months after treatment is recommended because reinfection is common. If you are pregnant or have symptoms such as pelvic pain, testicular pain or other significant symptoms, please speak to a sexual health service or GP, as you may require additional assessment or a different treatment approach.
